Siguldas Valdorfa Bērnudārzs
Sigulda's Waldorf Kindergarten was created in 1998 to promote alternative education for children as well as family education. It is located in Sigulda, Latvia, and has children from 1,5 to 6 years old.
Waldorf pedagogical theory considers that during the first years of life children learn best by being immersed in an environment they can learn from through unselfconscious imitation of practical activities. The early childhood curriculum therefore centers on experiential education, allowing children to learn by example, and opportunities for imaginative play. The overall goal of the curriculum is to "imbue the child with a sense that the world is good.”
As a volunteer at this kindergarten during one year (April 2015-April 2016), I photographed the kindergarten and surroundings, directed a documentary about the daily routine, activities and Latvian traditions. I also kept a blog: Labdien Sigulda, where I posted reguraly.
